EsaKids: space explained to children. and more!
Did you know that the heaviest communications satellite in the world, Thaicom4, launched on 11 August 2005, weighed nearly 6,500 kg, which is more or less as a London bus? Have you ever heard of Mamagoose (Mother Goose), a special pajamas for babies that sends a signal if the child stops breathing, made on the basis of 'smart' suit used to monitor the movements of astronauts? Want to try to see with the naked eye in the sky the International Space Station (ISS), which travels at 400 km above our heads, at a speed of 7.7 kilometers per second and is the largest object ever placed in orbit around our planet?
Esakids , the site that the European Space Agency (ESA) has designed for children, will pleasantly surprise you, but now you are no longer children.
Colorful, interactive, information-rich, the site is divided into five main sections that will take you on a fascinating journey into the virtual space.
The universe is the area for those who want to learn more about planets, satellites, stars and galaxies, comets and meteors; life in space will help you know more about the space station or the lives of astronauts; Liftoff contains lots of useful information on delivery vehicles, spacecraft, mission control or testing of the satellites; space illustrates some useful practical applications of space research in the field of weather forecasting, telecommunications, health or georeferencing, and finally Earth provides some interesting information sheets on climate change, natural disasters, the world ocean or the defense of nature.
Of course, there are some suggestions for workshops children and numerous games and quizzes for fun and to test their knowledge.
