Melancholy of autumn and a hunger for sweets!

Many people with the coming of autumn are taken from a state of melancholy to depression, are attracted to sweet foods rich in carbohydrates, undergo an increase in body weight, they tend to close at home.

All these symptoms are due to an increase of a hormone: melatonin!

The reduction of time and intensity of sunlight, which occurs in the autumn days, produces an increase of this hormone has many functions and can also affect the feeding behavior, leading to eating sweet foods! The reduction in the intensity and duration of sunlight in the fall due to an increase of melatonin in humans and animals!

In animals, melatonin is the hormone that leads to winter hibernation!

In humans a marked increase in melatonin due to melancholia, depression, a disturbing set of symptoms called seasonal affective syndrome.

One other cause of autumnal sadness is to stay long hours in a closed room lit by artificial light, at home or at work. To make matters worse, there is an emotional craving for carbohydrate-rich foods, a real

hunger for sweets, accompanied by a reduced attraction to protein foods.

We tend to eat certain foods and not others under the influence of biochemical melatonin.

The result is weight gain because excess carbohydrate is converted into body fat.

When you stay long in office or in a closed room in the house need to check the intensity of the ordinary. Typically indoors at work or at home or around the intensity is less than 600 lux, too low, not suitable to the health and psychological well-being. The lack of light makes you fat and melancholia generates

To overcome the melancholy of autumn is healthy living at least two hours a day outdoors to absorb sunlight and reduce the secretion of Melatonin, thus reducing cravings for sweets and carbohydrates.

To get the same effect of natural sunlight should have in their working environments and living a lighting system with lamps capable of generating a luminous intensity of at least 2,500 lux.
